Photo finish at Brands puts Jordan 2nd on the podium

Brands Hatch 4 & 5th of June

During Thursday testing I ended up at the top of the time sheet, three tenths quicker than any other driver and the only person to break into the 46’s . My team and I were both pleased with the day and knew that if I reciprocated this form in qualifying then the weekend would be one that would end with some trophies being taken home.

It was of the most importance that I qualified well more so than at any other circuit as Brands Hatch is notoriously known for being a very difficult circuit to overtake at, and from last years experience, where you started, was where you finished!

First qualifying was in the morning and I struggled to find some space on the short circuit to put together some decent laps. I ended up a disappointing seventh. Later on, I had found on the telemetry that I had been resting my foot on the brake rod down the straights. This was as my heel stop had bent! This could not have helped and especially at a circuit where one tenth can split first to tenth.

Second qualifying was better, with a straight heel stop and no other problems I qualified second only 0.04 off of the pole time. But my lap for lap consistency was the quickest out there.

Race One was always going to be the more difficult of the two, simply because I was starting further down the grid. At the start, the first two row’s jump started and I was certain that they would all receive ten second penalties. Later on though the BMW Clerk had said half the grid jump started and it would have made the championship look a farce had he penalised everyone. Thus as usual nothing was done!!! Why bother having rules! Any way I finished seventh.

Race Two: For those who there or watching it on T.V. you would know that I could not have down anymore to try and overtake the leader. After Druids, probably the only half decent corner to overtake at was constantly under yellows for the last ten laps (due to two cars in the gravel), trying to get past the leader (Sam Bird) was incredibly difficult. I did what I could into pushing him into making a mistake, setting the fastest lap of the race in the process…..he didn’t. We went across the line merely 0.073 apart….Second…..I’ll settle for it this time!
