Rounds 19 + 20, Dull Day at Donnington

There’s not really much I can say about the weekend at Donnington. For those who saw the races on Motors TV will know that the old saying, ‘at the wrong place at the wrong time’ would really sum up the events of the weekend.

For those of you that weren’t at Donnington or didn’t see the races on TV. I’ll sum it up for you in short as it’s a weekend I like to forget! Testing on Friday went as well as it could within the circumstances. As usual I didn’t have new tyres due to the team being on a low budget. So by the end of the day it was once again difficult to deter where I would have been on the time sheet had I had a set. But to take from the day what I could I was only two tenths off of Phillip Glew, my team-mate with 6 years experience in single-seaters.

Qualifying on Saturday was a pure a lottery. This was because the track was wet and then dry all in the twenty-minute qualifying session, and the drivers with the quickest lap times were those who went across the finish line last. In the end, I qualified thirteenth and tenth.

For Race one I went from thirteenth to eighth, and moving up through the grid nicely as I had some good pace. Unfortunately, on lap six James Sutton had made contact with Sam Bird in front of me, he spun across the circuit, and collected me!!! I managed to get the car back to the pits with only one brake disc working. As you can imagine there was too much damage to continue.

For Race two I started a little further up the grid in tenth. By lap four I got up to fifth, all over the back of Stian Sorlie of whom I was trying to pass. Unfortunately this was not to progress as third placed man Christian Bakkerud spun across the track after making contact he went on to the grass, back onto the circuit. Who did he collect? Me!!!
